US 441

SR 500, a.k.a. US 441, is a far-reaching roadway that connects several major cities in Central Florida, including Gainesville, Ocala, Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis, Mount Dora, Apopka, Orlando, Kissimmee and St. Cloud. In Lake County, US 441 is an arterial that serves as a primary route to get from one side of the County to the other. With few to no parallel routes available, traffic levels will continue to increase, bringing about a serious need for capacity enhancements. Already in the process of being six-laned through much of Leesburg, the entire corridor, from Lady Lake to Mount Dora will likely be widened to six lanes in the near future. The Florida Department of Transportation currently has several segments funded through the Right-of-Way acquisition phase. In addition, the Lake~Sumter MPO currently ranks Construction funding for those segments of US 441, from Leesburg to Lady Lake, number one on their unfunded priority list.

US 441 at US 27 Intersection Improvements

Improvements to the intersection of US 441 and US 27 are currently funded for construction in FY 2008/09. The design phase has been completed (see graphics provided below). As designed, US 441 will become the main through movement, with US 27 intersecting from the south. Traffic signal spacing between US 441/US 27 and US 441/Griffin Road will also be improved.
