State Road 50

SR 50, a regionally significant arterial that bisects the Central Florida area, connects US 19, SR 589 (the Suncoast Parkway), I-75, US 27, the Florida Turnpike, SR 429, SR 408 (the East-West Expressway), I-4, SR 417 (the Central Florida Greeneway), and I-95, all Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) facilities. This spans from Spring Hill on the Gulf Coast to Titusville on the Atlantic. Within Lake County, the existing four-lane configuration has reached its capacity in the Clermont area. Traffic has become a major issue in this corridor. Two segments are currently under designed for six lanes. The segment from west of Bloxham Road to Hancock Road is funded for right-of-way acquisition in FY 2008/09. The segment from Hancock Road to Orange County is currently funded for construction in FY 2007/08, although rising costs of construction will likely delay this project to FY 2008/09. The graphic provided shows the status of these two segments, as well as several in Orange County and adjacent segments of US 27. The Lake~Sumter MPO will continue to pursue funding for these projects, as well as the SR 50 interchange with US 27, all of which are ranked highly on the unfunded priority list. The MPO will coordinate with the State to advance these projects to completion as swiftly as possible.
