Lake-Sumter MPO to host public workshop Sept. 19 about proposed bus service in The Villages

THE VILLAGES — The Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is hosting a public workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. to provide residents of The Villages an opportunity to submit comments about a proposed circulating bus route that will serve all three counties, Lake, Marion and Sumter, of The Villages.

The presentation and public workshop will take place at Laurel Manor Center, located at 1985 Laurel Manor Drive, before the scheduled meeting of the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners.

“The result of this meeting will provide valuable input into the evaluation of the proposed service,” said T.J. Fish, Executive Director of the Lake-Sumter MPO.

The public workshop will cover a variety of topics including specific bus routing, hours and days of service, headways, coordination with other public transportation services, preparation of route maps, type of vehicles, bus stop amenities, the need and location of a transfer facility, costs, revenue and partnerships.

For more information about the public workshop, call the Lake-Sumter MPO at (352) 315-0170.
