Sumter County Transit is Florida’s Rural Community Transportation Coordinator of the Year

LEESBURG — The Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged named Sumter County Transit as Florida’s rural leader in innovative solutions to fund and provide passenger trips for the transportation disadvantaged of the year. The award was accepted by Debbie Nelson, Transit Contract Manager for the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners, at the 20th Annual Transportation Disadvantaged Awards Dinner, held in Orlando. Deb Barsell, Community Services Director, stated “Debbie and her staff are committed to continuous improvement of the transit system in Sumter County. The receipt of this prestigious award from the State provides external validation for their efforts” Sumter County Transit provides door-to-door and shuttle services for residents of the County. Ride Right, LLC has operated the county’s vehicles under contract since October 2011.
