Lake-Sumter MPO Policies

The COOP is deifined as part of the transporation planning work program which identifies the planning strategies and the planning activities to be undertaken by the Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization. The COOP was adopted on May 23, 2007.
Within the Lake-Sumter MPO Area, various physical, environmental and local policy constraints influence the transportation planning vision for the region.  Land use decisions and transportation planning must be coordinated.  To assist in this coordination, some corridors should be designated as appropriate for capacity improvements through the expansion of lanes.  Some corridors, based on local visions and comprehensive plans, should not be prioritized for capacity improvements. This policy was adopted on February 27, 2008.
The Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization has established a DBE Program in occordance with the regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Part 26. The MPO has received Federal financial assistance from the DOT, and as a condition of recieving this assistance, the MPO has signed an assurance that it will comply with 49 CFR Part 26. It is a policy of the MPO to ensure that DBEs, as defined in Part 26, have an equal opportunity to receive in the DOT-assisted contracts.
The PIP identifies the planning strategies and the planning activities to be undertaken by the Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization. The purpose of the LSMPO Public Involvement Plan (PIP) is to provide a process that ensures opportunities for the public to be involved in all phases of the LSMPO planning process. The PIP was adopted on December 13, 2006.

The Title VI Program is defined as part of the transporation planning work program which identies the planning strategies an the planning activities to be undertaken by the Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization. Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act provides that no person in the Unites States shall, on grounds of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any programs or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
