Public Transportation Division requests public comments on proposed LakeXpress route changes

TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services, Public Transportation Division, is seeking public comments on several proposed route changes to LakeXpress, the County’s public transportation service.

Public comments regarding the proposed changes can be submitted to the Public Transportation Division by calling (352) 742-6580 or the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) by calling (352) 315-0170. The public can also comment on the proposed changes at the Wednesday, Jan. 28, meeting of the Lake-Sumter MPO Governing Board when the route changes will be considered. The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Citrus Tower, Valencia Room, located at 141 N. U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont.

“These changes are recommended to improve the on-time performance of the system,” said Ken Harley, Director of the Public Transportation Division. “Suggestions for route changes were identified during meetings with drivers and from comments from concerned citizens.”

The proposed changes to:

Route 1 (Lady Lake to Eustis route, primarily along U.S. Highway 441)
• Removing service to Waterman Hospital on the eastbound portion of the route, service to Waterman will continue on the westbound trip.
• Removing service to the parking lot of YMCA on David Walker Drive.
• Service on Mirror Lake Drive between Berckman Street and Fruitland Street will be discontinued. The bus will travel between County Road 25A (Dixie Avenue) from U.S. Highway 27-441 to Palm Street on east and westbound trips. This change is necessary to allow the route to reach Spanish Springs and Citizens Boulevard on time.

Route 3 (circulator route in Mount Dora)
• Remove service on Eudora Road and Mount Dora Road from U.S. Highway 441 to State Road 19. If approved, the bus will stay on U.S. Highway 441 and turn right onto State Road 19 to Ardice Avenue.
