LakeXpress route to be affected by road closures in Leesburg area

LEESBURG — The westbound course of LakeXpress' Route 1 will be modified from Wednesday, March 5, to Friday, March 7, due to construction near Newell Hill and Bentley roads in the Leesburg area.

The new route for these three days will be right on Mill Road, left on Bentley Road, left on Goss Avenue, left on East Line Street, right on Mill Road and then returning to westbound U.S. Highway 441. The Lake County Public Transportation Division apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause riders and has placed notices in buses alerting riders to this temporarily diverted route.

LakeXpress operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and buses run every hour from The Villages to Eustis with a circulator route in downtown Leesburg. Fares for LakeXpress are $1 for all trips. Half-fares are available for seniors 60 years or older, students and individuals with disabilities (buses are equipped with lifts). Free fares are available for children under five years of age, who are accompanied by a fare-paying chaperone.

Passengers can “flag” a bus down anywhere along the route by raising their hand and motioning to the driver as the bus approaches. The driver will determine the most safe and convenient spot to allow passengers to board. Passengers may depart the bus in a similar manner by notifying the driver of their desired drop-off location. The driver will again determine the most safe and convenient spot to allow passengers to exit the bus.
