2025 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)

2025 Long Range Transportation Plan

The Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), responsible for regional transportation planning in the urbanized areas of Lake and Sumter Counties, has completed development of its 20-year Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The 2025 LRTP identifies transportation improvements necessary to maintain adequate mobility and to accommodate the growth that is forecasted through 2025. These improvements were established through a comprehensive identification of highway, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and goods movement transportation needs and policies from the Counties. The Lake~Sumter MPO 2025 LRTP was officially adopted on December 14, 2005. Final documentation for the LRTP was completed and presented to the MPO Board on July 12, 2006 for approval and transmittal to FDOT and the State Clearing House.

The 2025 LRTP was prepared in conjunction with the Lake County Comprehensive Plan. Titled Planning Horizon 2025, the Lake County Comprehensive Plan will stipulate the ultimate goals of efficient transportation, adequate employment, affordable housing, needed capital improvements and access to clean air, water and open space for the next 20 years.

Public Comment
The Lake~Sumter MPO hosted Consensus Building Workshops at the Lake-Sumter Community College on June 15, 2005 and August 19, 2005 and two Environmental Justice Discussion groups at Minneola City Hall and at the Leesburg Community Center June 17, 2005 to solicit input on transportation needs and concerns within the region. In addition, the MPO provided a 45-day public review and comment period, from October 26, 2005 to December 14, 2005, prior to MPO adoption. The input received helped guide the development of the 20-year LRTP. The Citizen Comments section of this site contains the resulting feedback received.
